Conceiving a Libra: My astrological journey to motherhood

Join me as I share my unique journey of planning for a Libra baby through astrology.

Every evening, as I tuck my one-year-old son Samphire into bed, we gaze at a vibrant tapestry on his wall, depicting the twelve zodiac signs. Sam beams with excitement when I point out Pisces represented by two fishes or the majestic lion for Leo. His eyes light up when he identifies Aries’ ram or Capricorn’s steadfast goat. Yet, our shared favorite? The scales of Libra. It’s fascinating how a simple tapestry can spark such joy and curiosity in a child, isn’t it?

Why I chose Libra for my son

As I contemplate my son’s zodiac sign, I can’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction knowing I intentionally planned his birth period to ensure he would be a Libra, born between September 23 and October 22. You might think this is a bit over-the-top—after all, the journey to conception can be as unpredictable as a stormy sky—but it was crucial for me. I believe the world needs more balance and justice, qualities that are intrinsic to every Libran. Plus, it just so happens that these traits are perfectly aligned with my Virgo nature, which thrives on order and harmony.

Now, I can already hear some skeptics rolling their eyes at astrology. It’s often dismissed as mere superstition. However, understanding someone’s birth chart—essentially a snapshot of the cosmos at their moment of birth—can unveil profound insights about their personality and life path. And trust me, every chart is unique, like a fingerprint of the universe!

Astrology in daily parenting

Every day, I check both my and Sam’s birth charts against the current planetary alignments to better understand his needs. For instance, if Mars, the planet of action and sometimes conflict, is positioned in a sector of Sam’s chart that relates to family, I skip the big family gatherings. Why? Because it’s likely he’ll be more irritable and misbehave. On the flip side, if Venus, the planet of love, is occupying that same space, it becomes a perfect day for family bonding, as he’s likely to be in a harmonious mood.

My journey to motherhood

My relationship with my former fiancé, who is a Cancer, blossomed under the influence of our astrological compatibility. I remember when we first started dating in July 2021; he was initially skeptical about astrology. But as we explored our charts, he began to see the value in understanding our emotional landscapes. It wasn’t long before I felt an undeniable urge for motherhood. Even though I was just 28, the desire wasn’t something I took lightly.

As a Virgo, I’m known for my attention to detail and meticulous planning. So, I dedicated an entire year to preparing my body and mind for this journey. I stopped drinking, completely revamped my diet, and incorporated daily meditation. But more than just physical readiness, I was waiting for the perfect cosmic moment to conceive my Libra child.

The timing of conception

I’ve always believed that the first five zodiac signs—Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and Leo—represent a certain immaturity. I wasn’t keen on having a Cancer or Leo child, who I felt might be a bit too emotional for my liking. Capricorns? Too serious! And while Aquarius and Pisces are dreamy, they can often be lost in their thoughts. No, I wanted a Libra, a sign that embodies balance and charm.

As the Christmas season of 2022 approached, my partner and I intensified our efforts to conceive. The full moon in Capricorn on January 3, 2023, loomed large in my mind as an ideal time for conception. I felt this was a sign. The days leading up to the full moon were filled with passion and purpose, and I even followed some traditional wisdom—resting in a specific position after our intimate moments to aid the process.

A defining moment

About 48 hours later, I had that gut feeling—it was a strange, exhilarating intuition. I was out with friends, and the scent of beer nearby made my stomach churn. A week later, the first pregnancy test flashed negative, but the next day, a second test revealed the joyous news—positive! I’ll never forget that moment. I was overwhelmed with gratitude and humility, knowing I had respected my body. It felt like a cosmic acknowledgment of my efforts.

Bringing Sam into the world

When I went for my first trimester scan in March 2023, I confidently told the nurse I didn’t need her to calculate my due date. I already knew precisely when Sam was conceived and, as expected, he arrived in early October 2023. The moment he took his first breath, I couldn’t help but pull up his birth chart. I felt a wave of insight wash over me when I noticed Saturn’s position, which hinted at potential challenges with fatherhood in our family dynamic.

As a baby, Sam radiated joy and warmth—truly a Libran spirit! Libras are sociable and charming, always ready to engage with the world around them. Yet, as I watch him grow, I’m reminded of the duality of his sign. Librans are an air sign, easily distracted and sometimes indecisive. I can already see these traits manifesting as he explores his surroundings.

Future considerations

Looking ahead, if I decide to have more children, you bet I’ll consult astrology again. I’m now in a new relationship, and I would be thrilled to welcome a Virgo or Sagittarius child into our lives. Each sign comes with its strengths and challenges, and as a Virgo, I’m acutely aware of what I can handle—and what I can’t. As for Sam, having a sibling who shares his Libra traits might lead to some delightful yet indecisive playtime discussions!

So here I am, planning for the next cosmic moment for conception, whether it’s the upcoming full moon in December for a Virgo baby or the one in March for Sagittarius. Who knew that parenting could intertwine so deeply with astrology? But I believe that, in some way, the secret to good parenting truly is written in the stars.
